Falkirk Couple Ready to Tackle Beast Race for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland

Caryn Ross, and her husband, Stuart, will take on the Beast Race in Banchory in September to raise money for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

The Beast Race, a 10km obstacle course with non-stop challenges, at Knockburn Loch will push the pair as they navigate water slides, icy loch water and muddy crossings.

But the pair are motivated by a cause close to their heart.

Watching someone you love face those challenges gives you a real appreciation for the support, understanding and services provided by charities such as Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Caryn, 37, and Stuart, 40, said: “We recently completed Tough Mudder for charity and wanted our next challenge to support a cause that is very close to our hearts.

“The reason we chose Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is deeply personal. In 2017, a close family member suffered a stroke. While we want to respect their privacy, we have witnessed firsthand how the effects of stroke can continue to impact not only the individual but the entire family for many years afterwards.

“It is difficult to put into words how much a life-changing condition can alter the lives of everyone around it. Watching someone you love face those challenges gives you a real appreciation for the support, understanding and services provided by charities such as Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland. It hasn’t been easy for any of us which is why we’ve chosen CHSS, the work they do is just amazing.

“Although our family member’s journey is their story to tell, it has inspired us to do what we can to raise awareness and support for others facing similar challenges. We know that many families across Scotland are navigating difficult circumstances related to chest, heart and stroke conditions.

“Thank you for everything your organisation does for individuals and families across Scotland. We are proud to be supporting Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and look forward to representing the charity at Beast Race Aberdeen to thank them for everything they do for individuals and families across Scotland.”

Elaine Thomson,Community Events & Corporate Fundraiserat CHSS, said: “We wish Caryn and Stuart all the best for what will be an extremely challenging, but worthwhile, fundraiser at the Beast Race. Their story is a powerful reminder of the challenges people, and their families, face after stroke.

“Funds raised will help CHSS support the one in five people in Scotland who are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions and Long Covid to live fuller lives.”
