Buckstone Primary Team Take on Edinburgh Marathon for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland

A team of eight staff members from Buckstone Primary School in Edinburgh will run the Edinburgh Marathon relay on May 28 to raise vital funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

There are testing times ahead for staff at an Edinburgh primary school when they tackle the Edinburgh Marathon at the end of May.

The team of eight from Buckstone Primary School in the south of the city have signed up for the challenge of completing the route’s 26 miles and 384 yards to raise vital funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Many of us are close to people who have been personally affected by those conditions, and we know the brilliant work the charity does to provide services and support.

The two teams, nicknamed the Bucks and the Stones, are made up of Head Teacher Susan Imrie, Thom Campbell, Claire Davidson, Mhairi Hastie, Lisa Tweedie, Ana DeBonrostro, Lynne Dowds and Anna Cullen.

They will join thousands of running enthusiasts in the Edinburgh Marathon Team Relay on Sunday, May 28, with a start on Potterrow in the centre of the city and the welcome finishing line in Musselburgh.

Mrs Imrie explained their motivation and why they chose to fundraise for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland: “Many of us are close to people who have been personally affected by those conditions, and we know the brilliant work the charity does to provide services and support.

“The school collectively did the Race for Life for cancer research in 2021. We started a running club in the school at the start of term last year, and that’s been inspiring. The marathon relay is something more challenging. Some of us are using it to get fit, some just to set new goals for ourselves.

“We have set a target of £1,000 and are almost there, so it would be great to meet that and go beyond it.”

The money they raise will help us to support the 1 in 5 people in Scotland who are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live full lives.

Stephanie Wilks, Community, Event and Corporate Fundraiser at Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland commented: “We are so grateful to the team at Buckstone Primary for choosing to fundraise for Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland.  They are real fundraising heroes!

“The money they raise will help us to support the 1 in 5 people in Scotland who are living with chest, heart and stroke conditions to live full lives.”
