Start 2021 with an epic challenge by joining our Virtual Zwift cycling event on Sunday 17th January, taking on the 129km Uber Pretzel – Zwift’s toughest ride ranked by distance and climbing! The Uber Pretzel is not for the faint of heart, with its supreme length and epic climbs this is certainly a challenge to tackle together.

Join Team CHSS for this virtual cycle led by keen cyclist Scott Hutchinson, who survived a stroke just 3 years ago. During his recovery Scott couldn’t wait to get back on his bike and was fortunate to be back cycling within weeks. Now he’s taking on this impressive feat so that he can support others to live their lives to the full too.

Scott’s Story

Scott, 48, had been active his whole life. A keen cyclist and member of his local cycling club, he regularly took part in long distance and competitive events.

But in 2017, Scott was at work when suddenly his face and right side went numb. He was terrified.

Luckily, Scott was taken to hospital and seen by doctors quickly. His swift-acting colleagues had saved his life by calling for help but his recovery was only just beginning.

“I looked fine but didn’t feel fine. I was scared, worried and paranoid it might happen again. After leaving hospital, I craved information about stroke, why it might have happened and what my future would hold for me. I kept returning to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland. The help, guidance and support they provide is invaluable, and, for me and many others like me, it’s a lifeline.”

In time Scott was able to return to work and get back on his bike. “Cycling for me is a passion and when I’m on a bike it clears my head. I still have fatigue, occasional memory impairment and clumsiness in my right hand, but I’m aware of just how lucky I’ve been to get back to living my life to the full.

“I can’t wait to take on the Uber Pretzel in January and would love to take as many people along for the ride with me as possible. I’ll be running a few communal rides in the lead up too which everyone who signs up is welcome to join.

“It was a no-brainer for me to fundraise for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland whilst completing the ride. I know first-hand the great work they do, and their belief in No Life Half Lived means a lot to me. It’s the attitude I’ve lived with every day since my stroke.”

Join Scott on his epic challenge by signing up today for Scott’s Spokes Against Strokes!
