Our amazing volunteer and fundraising hero wins Special Recognition Award

We’re excited to announce that our amazing volunteer Derek Mackie has won the Special Recognition Award – Fundraising Volunteer at Volunteer Edinburgh’s Inspiring Volunteer Awards.

When Derek’s wife sadly passed away, he wanted to do something positive in her memory and has been supporting CHSS through volunteering and fundraising ever since.

Not only has Derek raised thousands of pounds to help people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions, but he is also a Kindness Caller volunteer and a valued member of our Volunteering Strategy Group.

No challenge is too big for Derek, he will do whatever it takes to help others.

When lockdown struck, he immediately signed-up to become a Kindness Caller volunteer, supporting people who are isolated and alone.

He takes on epic challenges like half marathons and swimming the Channel and on top of Kindness Calling, he helps shape our volunteering at the Volunteering Strategy Group.

We are so proud of Derek and thrilled he is being recognised for his incredible volunteering and fundraising efforts.
