Head for Heights – take a big step for CHSS!

Leaping into action by abseiling from the iconic Forth Bridge is easily one of the boldest, most adrenaline‑charged events that Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland offers.

For Kevin from Mussleburgh, it was also an opportunity to honour his late dad.

I’ve always wanted to do something for charity. In 2019, my dad, Jim, died of a stroke at the age of 77. That started quite a tumultuous six years in my life, and that’s me just getting back onto an even keel now.

Last September Kevin, 52, was one of hundreds of daredevils to abseil 165ft down the bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and help raise thousands of pounds for CHSS.

The senior playwork practitioner said: “I’ve always wanted to do something for charity. In 2019, my dad, Jim, died of a stroke at the age of 77. That started quite a tumultuous six years in my life, and that’s me just getting back onto an even keel now.

“He was my best friend. My mum died when I was 18, so it was me and him through thick and thin.

“At the start of the year, I was thinking about doing something different. I just wanted to do it in his memory. There was a lot of motivation for me. I think if you’re able to, you should at least try and do one thing for charity.

“He would have been laughing at me every step of the way, and I actually surprised myself, to be honest. It’s a totally unique experience doing it off the bridge.”
