Father and Son Team Tackle Monster Cycling Event to Support Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland

A father and son team have cycled 66 miles through the Highlands to support Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Steven Gough and his son, Campbell, took part in the Etape Loch Ness event raising £890 for CHSS.

The 62-year-old, from Orkney, lives with his partner Rhona and was inspired to fundraise after Rhona’s dad, Jack, died after a stroke.

He said: “Experiencing this, being there at the end watching someone you admire and love leave the world, and feeling helpless to change things, is not something I wish on anyone.

“I’m not a habitual fundraiser, but I decided I wanted to contribute something to CHSS to help support others who might be going through, or have gone through, the same experience as our family.

“My son Campbell, also a cyclist, agreed to join me so we were a team of two for the 106km event.”

He added: “I know the money we raised, regardless of service or campaign it goes to, will be put to good use.

“Many friends and family contributed to our efforts and we are very appreciative. We both put our heart and soul into getting round the course on the day and felt a great sense of achievement, as you can probably tell from our picture at the end.”

Anne Magarin, Community, Events and Corporate Fundraiser for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, said: “We’d like to thank Steven and Campbell for their incredible efforts in taking on the Etape Loch Ness. We’re so grateful they chose to fundraise for CHSS.

“The funds raised will help CHSS support more families affected by our conditions, providing practical and emotional advice, and offering tailored pathways of support based on what matters most to them.

“This will enable more of the one in five people in Scotland living with chest, heart, and stroke conditions and Long Covid to live life to the full.”
