Advice Line Nurses
0808 801 0899 Free from landlines and mobiles
Our free, confidential Advice Line service provides support and information for people living with lung disease, heart disease and stroke. In addition we give advice to families, carers, and health and social care professionals across Scotland.
Our specialist Advice Line nurses provide a supportive listening ear, together with health advice based on Scottish and UK clinical guidelines.
We are able to send free chest, heart and stroke booklets and factsheets, and other related health information, by email or post.
Free Air Quality and Weather Text Alert Service
Within this service our Advice Line nurses monitor the air quality, wind speed, temperature and pollen count every day. They send text messages about bad weather or poor air quality in local areas, to inform people living with chest or heart conditions who may find adverse weather conditions and air quality affects breathing.
To sign up text WEATHER to 66777
The CHSS Advice Line has been independently accredited with the Helplines Partnership Quality Standard since 2001. We are the first helpline in the UK to have been accredited for a sixth time. The Helplines Partnership Quality Standard is the benchmark for helplines to assess, improve and maintain their quality of service.
The Advice Line won two national awards at the end of 2015: Helpline of the Year; and Best Innovative Use of Technology (for our Air Quality and Weather Text Alert Service).
The Advice Line is open from Monday to Friday, 9.30am – 4.00pm.
If you contact us when the Advice Line is closed, please leave a message and a nurse will get back to you on the next working day.
We also respond to all emails and text messages by the end of the next working day.
