You’re fixing stroke-op injustice

A life-changing operation will soon be available for stroke survivors thanks to thousands of courageous campaigners across Scotland.

The emergency procedure thrombectomy, which is available in England and other countries in Europe but not in Scotland, removes blood clots.

In 2017, a procedure called thrombectomy was withdrawn from Scottish hospitals. That year, only 13 people received this life-changing treatment in Scotland – but as many as 600 people would have benefited.

Without it, people who have had a stroke can become significantly more disabled. But thanks to all of you who signed the Bring Back Thrombectomy petition, met MSPs and fought for change, the Scottish Government has committed to opening thrombectomy centres this year.

Stroke patients in Scotland deserve the best possible care, and because of you they will soon receive this. Whilst thrombectomy isn’t suitable for all stroke survivors, it can significantly increase independence and quality of life for those who can benefit from the procedure.

Thanks to thousands of you signing our petition and supporting the campaign, together we’ve been able to ensure future stroke survivors will have access to this life-saving thrombectomy treatment.
