Engagement Survey and Focus Groups

Our Volunteer Engagement Survey last year gave us lots to celebrate with 100% of you recommending volunteering at CHSS to family and friends and 94% of you considering your motivations for volunteering to have been met.

Whilst we’re really pleased with the positive feedback, the survey has also been a great opportunity to understand where we need to develop our work to provide the best possible experience for all.

Since the launch of the survey in March 2023, we have held focus groups and consultations to understand some of the results in more depth and have been working hard to address your feedback.

We look forward to putting together our Volunteer Engagement Survey for 2024, keep an eye out soon for the link to the survey.

Support and Development

Only 55% of you reported having regular support and development meetings with your manager. Ensuring that support & development and volunteer meetings are held regularly is a priority for the Volunteering team.

We have…

  • Reviewed our support & development approach
  • Created training and guides to support you and your volunteer manager to have regular catch ups about your experience of volunteering for us and your motivations for volunteering

Learning & Development

75% of you felt there are sufficient Learning & Development opportunities for your role.

We have…

  • Carried out a full review of volunteer learning and development for all volunteers across CHSS
  • Created and delivered new courses to support you in your role, including Roles and Boundaries sessions for our Kindness volunteers
  • Reviewed our programme of ‘Skill-Up sessions’ and sent out a new calendar for 2024

Leadership

Several of you felt that there was more we could do to communicate the role of the senior leadership at CHSS, including the Board of Trustees.

We have…

  • Held a series of Volunteer Appreciation events across Scotland, offering an opportunity to hear from, and meet our CEO Jane-Claire Judson, and Douglas Sewell, Trustee
  • Organised opportunities for our Leadership team to visit shops and services across Scotland
  • Launched our new Assemble news site including regular updates and news about our board of Trustees and Leadership team

If you have any feedback or questions, please get in touch with us by emailing volunteering@chss.org.uk or speak to your Volunteer Line Manager.
