Going on holiday

Holidays are a fun and enjoyable part of life but it can be difficult to know where to start to find something suitable or to think about the logistics of travelling.

You may need to do more forward planning to ensure the trip goes smoothly and is suitable for you and your family. For example, do you need to use a wheelchair for all or part of the journey, will you need to plan plenty of breaks while travelling, do you need to take or hire extra equipment?

Some holiday organisations will make all your arrangements including travel and assistance. Whatever your needs, there will be some help available.

See the CHSS factsheets on Holiday Information (PDF) and Travel and motor insurance (PDF) for details of some helpful travel and insurance companies. There is also a factsheet available about Air travel (PDF) for people affected by chest, heart or stroke illness. If you have any other questions about travelling after stroke, call our Advice Line nurses on 0808 801 0899.
