The Epidemiology of Stroke Patients and Their Primary Care in the Highlands of Scotland

Type: Stroke

Grant holder: Dr Alasdair Mort, University of Aberdeen

Amount Awarded: £4,967

Year: 2013 - finished

In the Highlands of Scotland it can be difficult to get to patients who have had a stroke. It can also take much longer to take stroke patients to hospital. Delayed treatment might limit recovery from a stroke. If we know more about rural stroke then care could probably be delivered better. We would analyse data from NHS Highland and from the Scottish Ambulance Service. This would include patients’ home post-codes, who they were cared by and how long it took an ambulance to reach them.
