Implementation of Stroke Early Supported Discharge in Scotland

Type: Stroke

Grant holder: Professor Terry Quinn, et al., University of Glasgow

Amount Awarded: £36,015 over 2 years

Year: 2017 - Finished

“The study will investigate what rehabilitation services are provided to stroke survivors in Scotland when they leave hospital and whether research evidence is being used to guide provision of healthcare.

Clinical trial research has shown that early supported discharge (ESD) gets stroke patients out of the hospital quicker and improves chances of living independently. We will add questions to the Scottish Stroke Care Audit and conduct interviews with staff to find out whether ESD is being offered to patients in Scotland.

Findings will drive improvements in stroke services, leading to more efficient, evidence based care and better patient recovery. “
