Glasgow Takeaway Raises £1,400 for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland

A popular Glasgow takeaway held a fundraiser for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) when it reopened on April 8th.

Figo’s Peri Peri, on Kilmarnock Road in Shawlands, closed last year after a fire. Now, a year on, staff welcomed customers back with a special, and personal, fundraiser for owner Adil Saleem. Selected items on the menu were sold for £1 and more than £1,400 was raised on the day.

Adil, from Renfrew, said: “There was a fire in our Shawlands shop in April last year and we thought it would be good to do an event where we gave the money to charity.

“Ahmed Iqbal, my business partner, his father had a stroke 11 years ago and he passed away and we thought that CHSS was a good fit and we thought we’d contribute.

“When we reopened, we selected four items from our menu and sold them for £1 and every pound that was raised went towards CHSS.

“My mother had a mini stroke and we’ve had a family history of strokes and heart attacks so fundraising for CHSS is a good cause.”

Louise Macleod, Community Events & Corporate Fundraiser at CHSS, said: “We want to thank Adil and everyone at Figo’s for choosing to support us with this generous fundraiser.

“CHSS provides vital rehabilitation, community support, and life‑changing services to people across Glasgow and Scotland recovering from stroke, chest illness, and heart conditions.

“We can’t do that without kind-hearted people fundraising for us. Every penny raised in Scotland, stays in Scotland too.”
