Acting FAST to keep well this winter

Pink heart

We can all do small things to keep well this winter but a stroke or heart condition can happen anytime and anywhere and needs a quick response.

Don’t hesitate to call 999 if you suspect there’s something wrong so you can seek medical advice quickly. ☎️

Signs of Stroke

Think FAST is a simple way to recognise the signs of a stroke:

👤 FACE – Can the person smile, does one side of their face droop?

💪 ARM – Can they lift both arms? Is one weak?

💬 SPEECH – Is their speech slurred or muddled?

⏰ TIME – If ANY ONE of these signs or symptoms are present, call 999.

Heart conditions

The most common sign of a heart attack is chest pain that doesn’t go away, which may feel like pressure, tightness or squeezing. ❤️

Other symptoms which may indicate you’re having a heart attack include:

  • pain that radiates down the left arm, or both arms, or to the neck, jaw, back or stomach
  • unconsciousness
  • seizures or fitting
  • difficulty breathing (snoring or rasping)
  • rapid heart beat
  • low or undetectable heart beat
  • blue or pale tingling of knees, hands and lips
  • chest pain and breathlessness, nausea, sweating or coughing up blood

It is crucial that if you – or someone you know – shows one or more signs of a heart attack, you call 999 right away.
