Can you help people recover their life after stroke in Badenoch & Strathspey?

In the Highland’s alone, more than 8,100 people are living with the effects of a stroke and as a result of their condition they can often be left feeling isolated, lonely and frustrated.

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland is looking for volunteers in the Badenoch and Strathspey area to help them offer new Rehabilitation Support Services which offer advice, support and practical help to people to get their lives back on track following a stroke.

Emma Knox, Lead Rehabilitation Coordinator, said, “We rely on the help of local volunteers to provide this vital support. We are looking for volunteers across the Badenoch and Strathspey area to help support people to regain their confidence, overcome their anxieties and re-establish the skills needed for everyday conversations and activities.”

As a volunteer, you are not only helping to rebuild someone’s confidence at what can be a very emotional time in their recovery journey but also doing something rewarding and worthwhile. You can gain new skills, build new friendships, broaden your experiences and open up the door to new possibilities! Not only can your time make a real difference to people living in your local community, volunteering can improve your physical and mental health and help beat stress.

The volunteering role could take place within the community and community hospitals. Excellent training and ongoing support are provided to all CHSS volunteers.

Emma continued, “At CHSS we are very flexible with volunteers’ time and can tailor your time to our one to one and group volunteer roles. We appreciate how busy life can get and are happy to work around you. So if you could spare a few hours we’d love to hear from you and welcome you to our team.”
