Gather your friends and family this Saturday 17th of June at Duthie Park and take a walk to help improve the quality of life for people in Aberdeen who are living with lung disease, heart disease or the effects of a stroke.
Katie Jones, Fundraising Officer said, “We are always inspired by the incredible people who take part in our annual walkathon events. Many of the participants are a genuine inspiration as they are striving to get their lives back on track after suffering life-changing illness.
One inspiring woman who took part in last years’ walkathon and is volunteering for CHSS this year is Linda Jaffrey. Linda who suffered a stroke challenged herself to the walkathon as part of her stroke recovery journey.
Linda explained, “I want people to know that recovering from a stroke can take a long time and I understand that it feels like it may never happen but I want to encourage people not to give up and that life really does get better. Taking part in activities and getting out and about is such a positive step. I found that walking really helped to aid my recovery and I received fantastic support and encouragement from CHSS. So that’s why this year I am coming back as a volunteer so that I can motivate and encourage others in their journey.”
Katie Jones said, “You really don’t have to be super fit to take part in the CHSS Duthie Daunder and Deeside Stride event; with a choice of walking route distances from 1 mile to 10 miles there is a walk for everybody and it really is all about taking part and supporting a great cause!”
“Every penny raised from the walkathon goes towards advice, support and practical help for people in Aberdeen who are trying to get their lives back on track after a stroke or diagnosis of a chest or heart condition. This support includes the Stroke Nurse Services based in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend Hospital as well as our community based rehabilitation services supporting people back in their own homes and communities.”
You can still sign up for one of the event walks at www.chss.org.uk/duthiedaunder or come along to Duthie Park Rangers Pavilion on Saturday morning between 9am and 11.30am and sign up on the day. You will be warmly welcomed and your walk and support will genuinely make a difference to the lives of people across the North East of Scotland. So be inspired, put your best foot forward and make a difference.
