People in some parts of Scotland are dying too soon because of poor health. We want to change that. It is never too late to improve your health. We can help you do it. Health Defence Scotland have launched a new pioneering programme in Drumchapel to tackle Scotland’s health inequalities and reduce the risk of chest, heart and stroke conditions. People in Drumchapel can go along to the Drumchapel Community Hub for free health checks, advice and support from our Health Defence Team.
A health check will help you find out more about your overall health.
It is free and with a trained member of our team.
It can help you live a healthier life and reduce your risk of chest, heart and stroke conditions.
A trained member of our team will:
Talk you through some simple questions on your health.
This will tell us more about what is important to you and your health.
You can also choose to have free tests to find out more about your health. These tests will be explained to you before you decide if you wish to take them.
The tests we offer include checking your blood pressure, checking your weight, checking your waist measurement and checking your cholesterol level.
At the end of the health check we will help you set one goal which you’d like to work on to improve your health. Together we will also create a simple plan that fits your needs to increase your chances of achieving it.
An example of a question is: Do you smoke or vape? How many cigarettes would you smoke in a week?
Can I bring a friend, relative or my support worker to the health check?
Yes. Having a familiar face at your health check can make you feel more relaxed or comfortable.
How long does a health check take?
A health check is led by you. We suggest you allow between 20 to 45 minutes to complete your health check.
Do I need to do anything before my health check?
If you are currently seeing a doctor or health professional for an existing medical condition, it may be helpful to bring along their details to the health check. You may also want to let them know you plan to have a health check.
If you are on any medication, such as tablets, inhalers or injections, you may wish to bring the names of these to your health check.
What should I wear for my health check?
Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing. This will make it easier if you want to have your weight, waist or blood pressure checked.
