Volunteers focus roles in Perth, Tayside and Angus
Our local coordinator Jill Boyle explains: 'Our Community Services support people who have had a stroke, helping them with communication difficulties and offering support and social activities. The service depends entirely on the help of local volunteers and we know that there are a lot of people in the community who have the skills we need.
Our services are tailored to the needs of the individual but generally involve chatting over a cup of tea in one–to–one or group settings. Volunteers are trained for their role in conversation to ensure that the service member can fully contribute despite their communication difficulties.
One–to–one conversation support services may involve accompanying the service member when they first access shops or social activities helping them build confidence and regain independence.
Volunteers can also support members accessing these services by accompanying them on public transport or by driving them to and from a group. Full training is given and expenses are reimbursed.
If you could spare a few hours to help, not necessarily every week but on a regular basis, we'd love to welcome you to the volunteer team.
