Stroke Voices — Training & Support
Stroke Voices is a free, informal series of workshops. It has been specially tailored for people living with the effects of stroke. The workshops run from 10.30am – 1.30pm over three non–consecutuve days. This will enable you to:
- Understand the structure of the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland
- Find out which NHS bodies are looking for your involvement and views
- Discover how to effectively communicate with health professionals
- Find out how a stroke effects people differently
- Understand how to communicate with people who have communication difficulties (aphasia)
- Learn how to improve services for the next patient
- Develop the skills to become a patient or carer representative planning, monitoring and improving health services
- Share ideas and experiences in a relaxed environment
Stroke Voices is free to join for patients, carers and health professionals. Joining the Stroke Voices register gives you access to workshops in your area.
Some members of Stroke Voices become representatives, directly influencing health services by:
- Responding to questionnaires
- Attending public meetings and consultations
- Leading patient user groups within health services
- Advising on research projects
- Attending committees and planning groups
Support
Stroke Voices has been adapted for people living with the effects of a stroke including those with aphasia. You will be offered appropriate support at the workshops matched to your needs.
