Acute Phase
It is recommended that anyone with symptoms of stroke should go to hospital immediately for assessment, investigations and possible treatment.
The acute phase refers to the immediate and early part of your stroke recovery. It can be a frightening time and you may be very unwell.
During the acute phase:
- Early recovery begins: the effects of the stroke are stabilised and initial care provided.
- Tests and investigations are carried out in order to get an accurate diagnosis and determine which part of the brain has been affected.
- Any medical treatment that is required is given.
