Moderate Alcohol

It is important to moderate your alcohol intake because drinking heavily

  • increases your blood pressure
  • affects your cholesterol level
  • can make you gain weight

Binge drinking—drinking large amounts over a short period of time-—is particularly harmful.

Recommended Daily Limit

The recommended daily limit for adults is measured in units of alcohol. A unit is equivalent to 8g or 10ml of pure alcohol.

If you have had a stroke or have heart disease you should stick to the lower recommended limit.
