Online resource for carers

carers helping a man to standStroke4Carers is a website for unpaid stroke carers, family and friends of anyone affected by stroke illness. As part of the STARS project Stroke4carers aims to give you free online advice, information and support whenever or wherever you need it.

It has been developed by Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland, The National Advisory Committee for Stroke, The University of Edinburgh Learning Technology Section and The Big Lottery Fund Scotland.

After consultations with stroke carers from across Scotland the following seven topics were chosen:

  • Stroke cause and effects
  • The hospital team
  • Practical advice and tips for carers
  • Care at home
  • Money, benefits and legal issues
  • Support for you the carer
  • Carers' rights

Interactive content

The website has over 340 pages and uses interactive graphics, animations, film clips and quizzes so that the information is interesting and easy to use. Many of the pages have links to other useful sites, printable checklists and useful contacts for further local and national information.

Stroke4carers can be used at any stage after a stroke. If you are a new stroke carer or if you have been a stroke carer for sometime, you should find information to help you. From the days after diagnosis, discharge from hospital, to planning a holiday or setting up a power of attorney months or even years later. Health and social care professionals can also use the website to recommend to their patients, clients and stroke carers in their local areas.
