Aim

Set up by the Scottish Executive to ensure that the view of patients and the public are properly taken into account by health boards. Scottish Health Council (SHC) is independent of the health boards and able to comment honestly on how well they involve people in decisions about care and services.

Public Role

Member of Local Advisory Council (LAC)

Purpose

There is a need to change the way that the health service cares for patients and the way services are delivered. The Scottish Health Council has been set up ensure NHS Boards achieve this by involving patients and carers.

Commitment

Able to spare 2-3 days per month

Requirements

  • interest in local healthcare services and experience as a patient/ carer
  • work well with different types of people and put point across showing respect for others
  • willing to learn new skills
