Get Active

Dust off your trainers and join our team of active fundraisers. Whether you run or walk, you will benefit from an individually tailored services from our team, including a wide range of training plans and advice as well as health and nutrition guidance for optimum performance. We’ll also be on hand to provide you with fundraising support, advice and any materials needed.

We have detailed fixture lists for the UK and abroad and a huge variety of events to enter, from 1mile walks and 5k fun runs to hiking and orienteering or marathons and ultras. We also have guaranteed places in some events and will always try to get you a place in a particular run, if you are interested in it. We also run events throughout the year organised exclusively for CHSS supporters, so we are sure we will have something for you.

From complete beginner to experienced runner we have something to fit your needs and can help you achieve your goal whether that be simply to get off the couch and have some fun or if you are looking to shave 10 minutes of your PB marathon time.

A great distance for the complete beginner, couch potato, or the experienced race runner alike. There are a huge variety of 5k’s available across the country. Here are details on a couple of our most popular. Should you enter any online make sure to call Jenny (0131 225 4800) to receive sponsor forms, t-shirts and training plans.

Happy Feet Run 5k – 1st March 2009 - Maybole

Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s first in-house run! Sponsored by Nike and The Sweat Shop, it is a fabulous race in spectacular grounds.

Suitable for all abilities, it is an undulating course with unbelievable views of rolling countryside. Watch out for the occasional rabbit and pheasant!

The multi-terrain runs are situated in the grounds of Blairquhan Castle, Maybole, which is easily accessed from central and southern Scotland.

Entry gets runners fantastic support in the form of training plans, goody bags, prizes, t-shirts, refreshments, massage, and all on-site facilities!!

If you’re not a runner you can walk, or you can volunteer as a marshal.

Bupa Great Winter Run – 10th January – 2009

The popular Bupa Great Winter Run takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Holyrood Park in Edinburgh. Beat the winter blues and detox after Christmas and New Year.
This is a course for runners of all abilities aged 14 and over.

Big Fun Runs – Glasgow & Edinburgh – Dates TBC

Run, walk or jog! All of the runs will be 5km in length and will be open to men, women and children of all ages. Children under 13 can enter but must WALK the course and be accompanied by a paying adult. You can enter as an individual, or as part of a family or team from your office or sports club.
The main focus of The Big Fun Run is to have fun whilst raising money for Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland. The minimum fundraising target is £50 per person.
All Big Fun Runners will receive a 'Big Fun Run' Medal and a Goodie Bag.

Loch Ness 5k – 4th October – Loch Ness

The popular 5K Fun Run is open to runners of all ages and abilities including wheelchair entrants. It follows a flat route along the River Ness before circling back to finish at Inverness Queens Park Stadium.
Participants are given goodie bags, medals and t-shirts as well as having access to post-race food and water stations. With a marathon and 10k on the same day it is a real party atmosphere, with a festival and Pasta party making it an event not to be missed.

Fresh ‘N’ Lo 10k – 2009 (Date TBC) - Glasgow

There are plenty of reasons to run but only one Fresh ‘N’ Lo Great Scottish run. Take part in Scotland’s largest mass participation sporting event and achieve something you maybe never thought was possible.
The Fresh ‘N’ Lo Great Scottish Run is the run for everyone – from seasoned runners who want to push to the limit, to the rest of us who would just like to get a bit fitter!

Resolution Management 10k – 2009 –(Date TBC) - Pre–registration possible now

Since this annual event was launched in May 1993, almost 120,000 women have taken part – a fantastic accomplishment for everyone involved with the race.

Today the Resolution Asset Management Women's 10k is one of the biggest and most successful women's road races in the UK, with 12,000 entries received in 2008.

An atmospheric race suitable for everyone, from seasoned runner to couch potato. Ladies - if you do one 10k in 2009, make it this one.

Bupa Great Edinburgh Run - 3rd May 2009

Scotland's premier 10km road running event, the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run is expected to welcome to Edinburgh over 10,000 runners of all abilities.
The city centre course takes in some of Edinburgh's most stunning scenery and famous landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle, The Scott Monument, The Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament Building. In a change to previous years, the course will take participants down the Mound, giving runners ample time to admire the fantastic views of Edinburgh's historic New Town, the Firth of Forth, and beyond to The Kingdom of Fife.

Gallovidian Dumfries 10K – 1st September 2009

A flat 10k in Dumfries and Galloway, well organised by Dumfries Border Harriers, regularly attracting hundreds of entrants from across Scotland.

Loch Ness Monster 10k – 4th October – Loch Ness

Forth Road Bridge Pitreavie 10K – 9th August- Dunfermline

Pitreave A.A.C. 2009 will see the 7th year of this popular race over the infamous bridge. Becoming ever popular and with spaces filling up long before race day,sign up early to avoid disapointment.

Half Marathons

The half marathon is a great length of run, and although it doesn’t take the commitment needed for a marathon, stamina and speed endurance are still crucial.

Diet Coke ½ Marathon - East Kilbride – 21st June 2009

Fantastic traffic-free, fast course, great for beginners or a PB. Full changing facilities are available including showers, Participants will receive a medal and a t-shirt, and there are prizes available too.

The ‘diet Coke’ East Kilbride 1/2 Marathon was established in 2000 and a 10k Fun Run was introduced to encourage more people to participate. The 10k Fun Run encourages and motivates more people to be involved in one of Scotland’s biggest races.

Dundee City ½ Marathon – 21st June 2009

The River Tay forms the backdrop to this picturesque riverside half marathon. The half marathon features a route that takes runners along the coastal path which follows the River Tay, along to the race finish in front of Historic Scotland’s' Broughty Ferry Castle. Fun Run on the day too.

Edinburgh City ½ Marathon - 5th April 2009

The picturesque Firth of Forth coastline forms the backdrop to this scenic Half Marathon.
With a new course for 2009, which starts in a more central location in Edinburgh on the track at Meadowbank Stadium, this new route will take runners out of central Edinburgh to the Firth of Forth coast at Portobello, before heading southwards towards a grandstand finish at Musselburgh Racecourse.

Heaven and Hell ½ Marathon - 5th April 2009

A mixed bag of a club race with some challenging climbs, but spectacular scenic views are your reward in the Perth Road runners annual ½ marathon.

Inverness ½ Marathon - 8th March 2009

This is an annual Half Marathon and Fun Run which takes place in the capital city of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness. The route for the race must be one of the most beautiful and most scenic for any Half Marathon, running alongside the meandering River Ness and below Inverness Castle before continuing along towards the famous Loch Ness.

Bupa Great North Run – 4th October 2009 – Newcastle

The world's biggest half marathon, the Bupa Great North Run, celebrates its 28th anniversary in 2008 and is a point-to-point course that starts in Newcastle and finishes in South Shields.

Marathons

A marathon is a huge challenge! 26 miles of pushing yourself to the limits. A marathon, although an achievable goal for many, is not to be taken lightly and will require serious training and mental preparation.
Whether you have run marathons before or not, we can provide you with places in many marathons around the world, and help you every step of the way with training programmes and fundraising.

Loch Ness Marathon – 4th October 2009– A monster challenge!

A Monster Race...running alongside the shores of the world's most famous loch.
Recognised as one of the UK's leading marathons, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon follows a spectacular point-to-point route through stunning Highland scenery, along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness to finish in Inverness.
All runners, friends and family are invited to the Baxters Pasta Party taking place on Saturday 3rd October! During the Pasta Party there will be live music, and a small number of physiotherapists and massage therapists. 10k and 5k on the day too.

Edinburgh Marathon – May 2009

DRAM – Dundee Running Adventure Marathon 19th September – 2009 (date TBC)

Fancy a DRAM with a difference - a 26.2 mile rough and ready marathon course along the city's popular Green Circular cycleway. With a myriad of differing terrain, this is not for the faint-hearted, but has the potential to make for an adventurous day out.

Walks

The Great Scottish Walks - 2009

These consist of 1, 6 or 12 mile walks through a city near you, with around 14,000 other participants, all walking for charities. It’s a great day out and the whole family is welcome, including pets! What’s more, there is no minimum sponsorship!
You can enter as an individual or team, and Jenny will be there at some events on the day with massage therapists and face painter for the kids!

Hadrian’s Wall Weekend Walk – various dates

A famous walk every rambler should do once. The landmark cutting through Northumberland's beautiful National Park used to span 72 miles, however today only sections are left. This 25-mile 3 day trek can be done in a weekend, and provides the opportunity to admire ancient monuments, fantastic scenery and the skill of Roman engineers who built the famous site.
