Making the memories count

"Gran spent her working life as a nurse, caring for strangers who needed her help. Outside of work, Janet (Jinty to her family and friends) looked after her family and cared for her brothers and sisters, before succumbing to a second heart attack. Instead of receiving flowers, we decided to have a collection and donate the money to Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland. We felt it would be a fitting tribute to such a wonderful, selfless person by continuing to help others." - Jamie Fowler

More and more families are asking for donations to charity instead of floral tributes to mark the life of a loved one.

Seen as a positive thing to do, funeral collections and a donation in memory are lasting memorials which live on by helping others. Donations in memory, no matter how small, helps to improve the quality of life for people in Scotland affected by chest, heart and stroke illness.

Ways to donate in memory

Online

If you would like to make a donation in memory of a loved one, please fill out our online donation form here

Funeral Collection

You can choose to have friends/family contribute to a collection instead of, or as well as, flowers at the funeral. At your request, we can supply you with some CHSS personalised in memory collection envelopes which can be handed to people at the funeral or to any others who would like to donate. You can order funeral collection envelopes by emailing anne.smith@chss.org.uk or by calling 0131 225 4800.

Alternatively, if you have already collected money or do not require collection envelopes, you can send cheques directly to us at:

Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland
65 North Castle Street
Edinburgh
EH2 3LT

If you are sending in a cheque please include your name and address (so we can send you a thank you letter in receipt of donation), the name of the deceased and their relationship to you. If you are sending in a donation in memory of a friend, we would be grateful if you could include the name and address of their next of kin so that we can let them know of your donation.

There are also other ways in which you can donate a collection to CHSS, such as:

• using the online donation form here,
• You can make a donation over the phone by calling 0131 225 4800. Please say that you wish to make a donation in memory and have your credit or debit card details available.
• handing in the donation to one of our 21 shops
• depositing the collection straight in to our bank account. Please contact Julia McCombie on 0131 220 9595, or email anne.smith@chss.org.uk who will give you all the necessary information to be able to do this.

At Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland we understand the impact the loss of a loved one can have and we are hugely grateful that you are thinking of supporting Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland at such a sensitive time.
