Volunteer in one of our charity shops
All our shops are staffed by volunteers, under the supervision of a shop manager and assistant manager, and we couldn’t begin to raise the £1 million + each year from our shops without volunteer help.
We are always on the lookout for more volunteers
If you can spare a few hours – once a week, once a month: it’s up to you! – your local shop manager would love to hear from you.
There’s something for everyone - including window dressing , driving, and admin assistance, as well as the traditional roles on the shop floor and in the stock room which are always needed! If you have previous retail or management experience, we are also looking for volunteers to fill our enhanced roles, providing emergency cover for the manager or assistant manager.
Infact, because we’re so busy looking for more volunteers, we even have a volunteer role for a volunteer recruiter , which will free up our shop managers to concentrate on sales! The role involves being out and about in your local area, as well as talking to people who come into the shop about volunteering for CHSS.
Volunteering in our shops is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.
We provide comprehensive training, so it’s also a good way of improving your skills if you’re looking for a job.
Simply pop in to your local shop , or give them a ring.
PS: we’re proud to have been awarded “Investing in Volunteers” , which means we look after all our volunteers to a very high standard. We have over one thousand volunteers across the charity: as well as the shops, volunteers help provide many of our services, assist with fundraising and are increasingly helping in ways geared to specific individual skills. Our Volunteer Manager is happy to discuss options, who you can contact by phoning 0131 2430162 or e-mail paul.okroj@chss.org.uk.
