Donate don’t Dump – recycle to raise cash and save landfill!
Don’t throw cash away!
Give us your unwanted goods (well, most of them, but not the broken stuff ) and we’ll turn them into cash to support people with chest, heart and stroke illness across Scotland. A typical donation can raise over £20. (And if you sign up to Gift Aid as well, we can turn every £20 from unwanted goods into £25.60!)
Give us your “rag” (things that are torn, well worn, etc) and we’ll turn that into cash too! And we’ll all be saving space in precious landfill sites.
We can also turn mobile phones and printer cartridges into cash by recycling them.
PS: we mostly rely on people bringing donations in to our shops, but we can collect too, especially if you’ve had a major clear out – contact your local shop.
Turning goods into cash
What sells really well…
• quality clothes – especially ladies’ clothes (including fashion items, tops) and younger men’s clothing
• accessories and shoes
• small household goods – bric-a-brac, linen
• books
• memorabilia and vintage
Limited sales…
Electrical goods can ONLY be sold through these four shops:
• Aberdeen
• Edinburgh Easter Road
• Edinburgh Portobello
• Leven
Unfortunately this excludes large TVs and music centres, but all other electrical goods are welcome.
What we can’t sell in our shops…
• furniture (but some other charities can) other than some very small items, because of space restrictions
• broken toys (no-one can)
• soiled clothing (yuk! – but read on..)
From rags to riches
BUT… we can make money from the Rag Man, so, if you have…
• old clothes or old linen (torn, stained, clean or not)
• odd shoes, broken handbags
please put them in a bag, mark it “RAG” (so our volunteers don’t have to open it) and give it to us for the rag man. We made over £60,000 on rag last year, so it’s well worth it!
Recycling - Keep toxins out of landfill and recycle your old mobile
We can make up to £7 from an old mobile. You can either bring them in to your local shop or send them to:

• Please remember to say you want the money to go to CHSS
• If you have the charger, send that along too

Save fossil fuels and recycle your used printer cartridges
We can make up to £2.50 for each recycled printer cartridge if you bring them in to your local shop
It takes one and a half pints of oil to make a new toner cartridge and over 30 million of them are thrown away each year, in the UK alone!
