With your support our research can answereven more questions...will you help us with a donation today? Click here to donate |
Dear Supporter,
As a mum, my kids are always asking me questions - some serious, some funny. If you are a parent or grandparent yourself, you'll know that they look to you as someone who has the answer to everything. Their questions, as they make sense of the world, can be relentless.
WHAT ARE WE DOING TO HELP?
As part of the fundraising team here, I am the one asking the questions. It might be 'can you afford to help?' or 'can you take part in this event?' I am constantly amazed by the generosity and loyalty of people like you, our valued supporters. Your loyal support is directly helping us fund research projects throughout Scotland. With awards totalling more than £500,000 each year, we are finding the answers to so many questions - our research teams are dedicated to improving techniques in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for chest, heart and stroke conditions.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES OF THE RESEARCH?
For example, one of the fascinating trials we are funding is happening right here in Edinburgh at the Western General Hospital. Scottish doctors are leading a Europe wide trial to induce 'brain cooling' hypothermia in patients who have had a stroke. By lowering the temperature by around two degrees this allows the brain to survive on less blood supply, allowing doctors more precious time to treat blocked or burst blood vessels. This, we hope, will improve the outcome for more than 40,000 people every year.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
As ever we are under pressure as a charity from lots of different angles. We constantly need to invest money in various forms of research as well as continue to improve and expand our services to help all the people that ask for our help throughout the year. The question we need to ask you is "will you help us with a donation today?" Your gift could go towards helping us commit to further research that will benefit the one in ten people in Scotland living with a chest, heart or stroke condition. Please download our 'Research Awards' leaflet by clicking here it makes for very interesting reading. It tells you a bit more about some of the projects we are currently funding. And I hope you will be able to help us answer more questions.
Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Rhazali, Fundraising Team (& mother of two)
