The Stroke Competency Toolkit (SCoT) is a free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) resource, specific to stroke care and is based on the NHS Education (NES) Stroke Core Competencies (2005).
The SCoT provides a format which enables health and social care staff to evidence their learning and demonstrate their knowledge of the stroke care competencies through reflective practice over a six month period. It is also aligned to the NHS Knowledge & Skills Framework.
The SCoT comprises of two levels Core and Specalising. There are also Specalising competencies specifically for registered nurses working in Stroke Care which were developed in partnership with the Scottish Stroke Nurses Forum (SSNF).

Target audience
The SCoT is aimed at health and social care staff who require to evidence their knowledge of the Stroke Core Competencies and how this is applied to their clinical practice. This applies to staff who are:
- Any member of the multi disciplinary team working in stroke care
- New to stroke – such as rotational staff or those new in post
