Aims and objectives of course

students in discussionThe aim of the course is to further enhance and develop the skills and knowledge of health and social care staff working with people affected by stroke.

By the end of this course participants will have:

  • Examined and reflected on their knowledge and skills related to stroke
  • Increased their core knowledge and skills related to stroke from Current Care in Stroke Part 1 (if applicable)
  • Identified areas where further learning is required
  • Identified areas in their own clinical practice where improvements / changes would be beneficial

Target audience

All health and social care staff who have some experience in working with stroke.

Course outline

Day 1

  • Stroke Classification, Acute Stroke Care, Acute Medical Treatment, Secondary Treatment
  • NG, PEG and Enteral feeding
  • Ethical issues
  • Clinical Reasoning in the Physical Management of Stroke
  • Perceptual and Cognitive Problems Post Stroke

Day 2

  • Living with Aphasia
  • Use of Medicines in Stroke
  • Psychological Aspects of Stroke
  • Sexuality Post Stroke
  • Hospital to Home
  • Carers Issues
