Management of stroke – an evidence based approach (theory) module: AN32251

Introduction

Napier University has developed a stroke module which is available to all healthcare practitioners.

This module will be designed to acknowledge the complexity of caring for the specific needs of stroke patients.

The overall aim of this module is to enable students to critically evaluate, reflect and apply evidence based knowledge in caring for stroke patients within a variety of settings (hospital or community).

Entry and academic accreditation

This BSc / BN SCQF 9 (Level 3) module is designed for students studying towards registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Adult) and for health professional students studying modules in the BSc programme.

Successful completion of this module is accorded 15 CAT points at SCQF 9 within the BSc / BN programme and is undertaken over a 15 week period of study.

Module delivery

The module will be delivered over 15 weeks in trimester 2 of the academic session.

The lectures / tutorials and workshops for this module will be delivered on Tuesday mornings from 9am–12pm. The module comprises of a total study time of 150 hours, including: 28 hours of teacher contact; 120 hours of self directed study; and 2 hours of supervised assessment.

Management of stroke – an evidence based approach (practical) module: AN32254

Introduction

Napier University has developed a stroke module that requires the student to reflect on their own practice, current research and the literature to produce a personal learning portfolio.

The overall aim of this module is to enable to students to explore, reflect and demonstrate the delivery of evidence based care for stroke patients and their relatives / carers.

Entry and academic accreditation

This BSc SCQF 9 (Level 3) module is designed for qualified health professionals working with stroke clients. Students must have successful completion of a stroke theory module (i.e. Management of stroke – an evidence-based approach).

Successful completion of this module is accorded 15 CAT points at SCQF 9 within the Nursing BSc programme and is undertaken over a 15 week period of study

Module content

The module will be delivered over 15 weeks in trimester 1 of the academic session .

Lecturers, academic support and WebCT resources will be provided to encourage planning, ongoing development and completion of the portfolio.

There is a total study time of 150 hours, including: 136 hours of self directed study and 14 hours of lecturers and academic support and WebCT online discussions.
