Current Care in Stroke – part 1 (2 / 3 days)

Health and social care staff who work with people affected by stroke and their carers.

Course aims:

To develop the core knowledge of health and social care staff and facilitate further development of their skills and confidence when working with people affected by stroke and their families. This course is aligned to the Stroke Core Competencies for Healthcare Staff, developed by NHS Education Scotland (NES 2005). The course content and delivery has been endorsed by NES.

Outcomes:

Each individual session has a specific aim and learning outcomes which are aligned to the Stroke Core Competencies. By the end of the course participants will have enhanced their knowledge and skills related to stroke care and be able to identify areas for further personal learning and development.

Current Care in Stroke – Part 2 (2 days)

Target group:

Health and social care staff who have completed Current Care in Stroke – Part 1 and wish to further develop their knowledge and skills related to stroke care.

Course aims:

To further develop on core knowledge and skills related to caring for people who have had a stroke and their carers.

Outcomes:

Each session has a specific aim and learning outcomes. By the end of the course participants will have reflected on their knowledge and skills related to stroke care and have identified areas for further personal learning and development. Participants will be able to identify areas of their own practice where improvements / changes may be beneficial to their clients / patients.

Single study days

These study days are based on specific topics related to stroke. They vary in their format and content depending on local need and resources.

Social services study days

This day offers members of the multi–disciplinary team working in the social services area a 1 day course that covers the main areas of stroke care relevant to their area of work. This course is particularly useful for those with a mixed case load which includes clients who have had a stroke.

These single study days are designed to meet the needs of community staff and the content will vary depending on local need and resources.
