Aims and objectives

The aim of the course is to enhance the skills and knowledge of health and social care staff working with people affected by stroke.

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Have increased their knowledge and skills related to stroke
  • Be able to select and apply this to their own work practice
  • Have refined the learning into specific objectives
  • Have identified areas where further learning needs to be developed
  • Have examined their own work practice

The content of Current Care in Stroke Part 1 covers the 20 Stroke Core Competencies (NES 2005).

Target audience

All health and social care staff in Greater Glasgow & Clyde who have limited experience in working with stroke.

Day 2

  • Activities of daily living and how to help
  • Experiencing stroke

  • Swallowing & stroke

Day 3

  • Nursing role and management
  • Carers issues and support
  • Case studies
  • Psychological issues in stroke care
  • Team working
