Heather Bryceland
Stroke Training Coordinator
Greater Glasgow and Clyde
How stroke training developed
Chest Heart & Stroke (CHSS), in partnership with Greater Glasgow & Clyde, identified the need for specialised training for nurses and other health professionals working with stroke patients and their families.
With the appointment of a stroke training coordinator Greater Glasgow & Clyde have more recently provided education and training courses and study days throughout the region.
The courses have been designed as:
- Current Care in Stroke Part 1
- Current Care in Stroke Part 2
- Topic Specific Study Days
For current courses and dates see Related Documents.
- Current Care in Stroke Part 1 is delivered over 2 consecutive days with a follow up day 1 month later.
Current Care in Stroke Part 2 is delivered over 2 consecutive days.
Both courses can facilitate a maximum of 20 participants.
- The Topic Specific Study Days focus on specific relevant topics.
Each course / study day stands alone, the content having been carefully chosen to address the knowledge and skills required at that particular level.
On completion a personal action plan is drawn up to identify further specific learning needs, which are discussed with the line manager.
The courses and study days aim to:
- Be relevant to the workplace
- Reflect practice
- Empower and enable
- Challenge, but support and be non judgemental
- Build confidence
Specifically designed study days can be set up in order to address the learning needs of particular staff groups.
Team of trainers
The stroke training coordinator along with a team of trainers, all with specific interest and experience in stroke, delivers the different aspects of the courses.
