Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland recognises the importance of education and training in chest, heart and stroke illness.

Education And Training

Education and training are taking on an increasingly important role for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS), not only in activities geared towards prevention but also in the improvement of health care and the development of new care initiatives.

CHSS training courses

In the field of stroke, CHSS has a team of Stroke Training Coordinators and a Stroke Practice Development Facilitator who develop, plan and deliver training for health and social care professionals and informal carers. The CHSS training courses aim to improve knowledge, skills and confidence in relation to stroke care. The training is available in:

Stroke core competencies

The National Advisory Committee for Stroke commissioned NHS Education for Scotland (NES) to produce the Stroke Core Competencies for Healthcare Staff. This document was launched in April 2005.

STARs project

Stroke Training and Awareness Resources (STARs)

This project developed an e–learning resource to provide a learning tool for health and social care staff to enable them to become more knowledgeable and skilful in the challenging area of stroke care. The resource is based on the Stroke Core Competencies.
