Central West – Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Young woman standing

We offer support services for Stroke Survivors from young adult to mature years and our services vary according to the needs of the individual.

The geography of the region is such that our services are delivered within both rural and inner city areas ensuring equal access for all across the localities.

In all, there are 6 Volunteer Stroke Services (VSS) in operation in the area, supporting 17 stroke groups, specifically for people with communication difficulties following a stroke. A range of outreach services for people who require individual support within their community are currently being developed.

Services are managed by a team of Local Coordinators and group workers who are supported by trained volunteers.

Our members can access the service through their Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) or be referred from their doctor, social worker or other allied health professionals, e.g. occupational therapist or physiotherapist. Some people contact the organisation themselves through our advice line and access the service that way.

In addition to our VSS services, there are also 22 Community Support Network (CSN) stroke groups who provide a range of social activities for all stroke survivors. These groups are affiliated to and supported by the charity, but not directly run by us. Enquiries regarding these groups can be directed to our head office (0131 225 6963) or Advice Line (0845 077 6000).
