Inverness Bravehearts is a Cardiac Support Group based in Inverness.

We came into being as the result of a public meeting in August 2001, a committee was formed from those present and the Grand opening was in December 2001 with Ken Kelman from local radio hosting the proceedings.

Meetings

We meet most Wednesdays for an exercise session at the Gym Hall, Millburn Academy, Diriebught Road, Inverness.

Inverness Bravehearts in actionThe exercise class is led by trained health professionals and consists of a warm–up, main circuit and a cool–down. It follows the lines of the hospital based programme which most members have attended. However, the group is run completely by the membership and is independent of the NHS.

Every 3 months we have a relaxation session at The Highland Heartbeat Centre at Raigmore Hospital and this is followed by healthy cakes and a cuppa.

We have also organised more social activities including walks around Inverness Islands, Black Isle and Rothiemurchus Estate.

Most Wednesdays we have 20–30 members coming along for the 'craic' and the motivation to continue with their lifestyle changes.

How to join

Members pay £12 registration fee per year and £2 every night that they attend.

The group is open to anyone with a cardiac condition and any of their family members who wish to attend providing their doctor has signed a form declaring they are fit to exercise.

Further information

sponsored walkTo raise funds we have organised various raffles over the years and have an annual sponsored walk along the Caledonian Canal Towpath from the Bught Park to Dochgarroch locks and back.

Local support has been fantastic and we have been lucky enough to receive grants from The Common Good Fund, The Highland Cross and Inverness Winter Festival Draw.

We are also very pleased to be affiliated to CHSS.

In March 2006 we became a registered charity and can now claim Gift Aid (Scottish Charity Number SC037269).
