Cheerful Chesters is an exercise group, affiliated to CHSS, for people who suffer from chronic lung disease.

Our qualified respiratory physiotherapist Minty Duncan pushes us if she knows we can do better but more often than not keeps a watchful eye on anyone trying to overdo things.

After a warm–up, we have an hour of gentle, but continuous, exercise including aerobics, stretching and concluding with a winding down session and relaxation.

An education element is introduced when appropriate to help members understand and cope better with their illness and Minty will do her best to answer questions at the end of the session.

Over tea and biscuits at the end of the class, we chat, lend a sympathetic ear and generally encourage each other.

An unwritten rule is 'cheerfulness' so, always living up to our name, we indulge in lots of banter, teasing and general good humour!
